The fine print

Privacy Policy

The short version: Ames, Actually doesn't have accounts or logins, and we don't ask you for personal information. Here's what that means in a little more detail.

Who we are

Ames, Actually is an illustrated guide site created and operated by Jenny Laine Designs, LLC, based in Iowa. This policy covers the website at amesactually.com.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. You can read every guide, play the Corn Hunt, and browse the Favorites page without creating an account, signing in, or giving us your name or email. We don't sell your information: there's no information to sell.

What stays on your device

Your Corn Hunt progress (which corn cobs you've found, your time, and any prize you've earned) is saved in your own web browser using local storage. It never leaves your device and never reaches us or anyone else. Clearing your browser data or switching devices resets the hunt, which is also why the game has no login.

Your wishlist works the same way. The items you save, plus any name or note you type, stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to us. When you copy a share link, those items travel inside the link itself, so anyone you send it to can open the list. Only share it with people you want to see it. Emailing, texting, or downloading that link is also how you keep a list for good, since clearing your browser data erases the copy saved on your device, and we never hold a copy for you.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site (mainly on the Favorites page and in the "Shop this guide" sections of individual guides ) go to Amazon. When you click one, you leave our site and Amazon's own privacy policy applies to anything you do there. We may earn a small commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. You can read the full affiliate disclosure.

Cookies and tracking

Ames, Actually doesn't run advertising or third-party tracking. The only things stored in your browser are the Corn Hunt progress and the wishlist described above.

Children's privacy

The guides are written with college students in mind, but anyone can read them. Since we don't collect personal information from any visitor, we don't collect it from children either.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes in a way that affects this policy (for example, if we ever add something that involves collecting information), we'll update this page to say so.
