Main Street musts
Ames Main Street Farmers' Market
Saturday mornings, May through October, on the 200–400 blocks of Main Street between Douglas and Clark. Around 130 vendors and the kind of crowd that proves Ames takes breakfast seriously.
Octagon Center for the Arts
Free exhibits, art classes, and a gallery shop. Good for browsing, buying, or pretending you're becoming a ceramics person.
Historic Main Street stroll
Brick storefronts, independent businesses, and the easiest “just one quick stop” in town.
